The Raptor laser marking system is used to make permanent on a variety of materials. Materials that can be marked include: semiconductors; metals; many plastics; coated metals and coated plastics. Marks can be used for identification, decoration, tracking through the production process, etc.
The laser produces a high-powered beam of light at the wavelength of around 1064nm, which is not visible. The light, when focused through a lens system, has enough power to vaporize materials or to thermally change the mechanical characteristics of a material, thereby producing a visible mark on the material. The beam of light is “steered” by means of two motorized moving mirrors controlled by a computer to produce the required mark.
